Macon’s Reunion of Allman Brothers Band Fans.
Hosted by the Georgia Allman Brothers Band Association, GABBAfest is an annual weekend long musical festival and “Brothers and Sisters” family reunion that reunites Allman Brothers fans from all parts of the world with live music at historic music sites, visits to the Big House, history-sharing, fan fellowship and community service projects honoring the lasting impact of The Allman Brothers Band.
The Georgia Allman Brothers Band Association (GABBA) has been dedicated to the preservation and promotion of The Allman Brothers Band musical heritage in Georgia since 1992. Proceeds from GABBAfest are donated to numerous charities and nonprofits in Central Georgia, as well as to musicians and other members of the GABBA family who have medical needs.
Members of GABBA have given back to the Macon community through multiple community service projects, which have included beautifying an adopted spot of Rose Hill Cemetery (found in the rose garden at the historic cemetery’s entrance); donating items to Washington Memorial Library for the Middle Georgia archives; sponsoring plaques for the Historic Macon Music Registry; sponsoring the historical marker at the Byron Race Track, site of the 1970 Atlanta Pop Festival.
GABBAfest is an annual September tradition and citywide music festival. Tickets often include Friday and Saturday night concerts, as well as Saturday and Sunday afternoon concerts, at historic sites like the Grand Opera House, The Allman Brothers Band Museum at the Big House, the Library Ballroom and Grant’s Lounge. There are also after-shows at local live music bars, community dedications honoring the ABB, and special tours and events all weekend at the Big House.
Previous GABBAfest performers include Jaimoe’s Jasssz Band, Samantha Fish, Jimmy Hall and Friends and the Jack Pearson Band
As The Allman Brothers Band’s road goes on forever, and all over the world, GABBA’s mission and dedication to the community where the ABB came from continues to make an impact on Macon. More than an annual festival, GABBA remains loyal to their mission of “making tangible contributions to projects, programs and plans to insure this heritage is not lost but indeed remembered, revered, and reveled in as an important part of Macon’s, the South’s, the nation’s and even the world’s musical and cultural legacy whose very roots are found here in Georgia.”
